I'd buy an Outlander Sport
It actually doesn't sound like a bad little trucklet honestly.
It weighs 3274lbs in fully loaded, AWD SE trim. Only 3,098 in ES FWD.
148 horsepower, 145 ft-lbs of torque.
5-speed manual in base ES FWD trim. Yes, everything else has a CVT.
25 City/ 32 Highway MPG in FWD form, or 24/30 in AWD.
I'm sure it has it's downfalls. But for the price I'm sure you could pick one of these up for, I bet it wouldn't be terrible.

I think the problems people have with it is the abysmal build quality and terrible suspension. It's one of those cars that on paper, seems to do everything right, but when you get behind the wheel it is everything wrong .
Likewise, imagine a FWD sport coupe that got 30mpg back when that was a big deal, was lightweight and utilitarian, and had an easily accessible hatch, and even came with a relatively powerful V6! Would you want to buy it? Sure. Until you realize that it is a ford probe .
That's what the Mitsubishi Outlander is. It's the Ford Probe of SUVs. Nothing wrong with it on paper, but get behind the wheel and you'll immediate regret it.

I'd say build quality is a given, looking at the brand's recent history. I'd reserve judgement on the suspension until I drive one.
But I've heard the Probe actually isn't terrible from some people.

That's right! It isn't a terrible car. In fact, it does have all of the parts that make a good car.
But does that mean it lives up to what it is on paper, or what seems like a great underappreciated buy? No. You find out that it's already as appreciated as it is. There's no upward movement there.

But then there's the Mazda CX-5 sport trim, 155 hp, 150 ft-lbs torque, 6 speed manual, 26/35 MPG FWD. Unfortunately you can't pair the MT with AWD (or the 185HP engine), but the handling is pretty nice. Very responsive, more "tallish hatch" than "truck." Around $21,000.

Evo swap then it might be good.

I remember reading some reviews when it came out that the CVT + 4cyl combo it had literally gave the drivers headaches it was so buzzy and droning. Therefore, I would only get one with the manual. It is very attractive though, and I like the small form factor.

I like how they look. I actually like both Mitsu CUV's!
With that said, I don't think I can get over the fact I'm probably faster than it on a bike.

Dealers in my area have these discounted down to $15000 for a FWD manual. It seems like a great car for that price, but the number of rusting 3-4 year old Galants I see scares me away from anything with a Mitsubishi badge.

My couisin's GF just got a new one of these. He likes it pretty well, and he drives one of OPPO's babies.

The modern answer to it, the FRS.
